Las Vegas Heroes Heal Through Horses

Horses4Heroes is a small ranch located near the northwest corner of Las Vegas. The non-profit organization offers horseback riding and family fun for heroes across the valley.

The organization makes horse riding and equine therapy available to Las Vegas first responders, active-duty military, veterans, and their families. The organization also hosts events and offers a place for people to relax and play games like horseshoe toss and archery.

Despite there being only a small amount of research done on the effects of equine therapy, some trials have shown its benefits for combating PTSD and anxiety for veterans. Some organizations claim that equine therapy can help teach empathy and help build community as well.

The non-profit hosted a three-day seminar on January 13, 2023, with O.K. Corral Series. O.K. Corral Series is an organization that provides education and certifications in equine therapy. Founder and president of O.K. Corral Series, Greg Kersten, led the seminar, using his extensive experience with at-risk individuals and horses.

The seminar at Horses4Heroes incorporated horse exercises and group discussions, allowing attendees to participate physically and learn. Horses4Heroes is passionate about sharing the benefits of working with horses and other animals. “We use the power of horses to help with coping skills from PTSD and other depression and anxiety-related issues,” said Libby Bugl, Director of Health and Wellness Programs for the non-profit.

The organization invites all heroes in Las Vegas to participate at the ranch. Horses4Heroes defines heroes as first responders, active-duty military, veterans, and health workers. Veterans can find information on riding, volunteering, or donating through the non-profit’s website, Facebook, and Instagram.
