For its third meet-up since its launch late last year, the Veteran Social Club hosted an event on January 14, 2023, at the Leatherneck Club, a Marine bar in Las Vegas.
The Veteran Social Club focuses on bringing military veterans together to raise money for local charities while networking with their peers. The Club founder and Navy veteran, TJ Henderson, focused on fundraising and bringing attention to the Devil Pups during this event.
64 veterans showed up to socialize and take advantage of the free food and drink provided by the club throughout the night. Marie Tomao, the Southern Nevada Liaison Representative for Devil Pups, shared information about the organization with the attendees. Tomao has been working with the non-profit for 19 years, joining as a volunteer after her son went through the program.
Throughout the years, Tomao has grown even more passionate about Devil Pups and empowering young adults. While volunteering with Devil Pups, she also founded Youth Leadership Authority, a non-profit focused on developing young adults through leadership programs. “Teenagers need our program. They need consistency and respect,” Tomao said. “You need grit to get through life, and that’s what our program gives. ‘D.P.N.Q.’ means Devil Pups Never Quit.”
Veterans can find more information about the Devil Pup organization through their website. The website also provides details on how to donate, sponsor a “pup”, or volunteer. The Veteran Social Club plans to host monthly events for veterans, offering free food, community building, and the opportunity to support a local charity. More information can be found on their website or Facebook page.
